STK

STK - Not your daddy's steakhouse

However I think mine would love this place! STK is quite different than the traditional Capital Grill/Smith & Wollensky/Peter Luger type steakhouse. The decor is very trendy and modern and the menu features traditional items as well as creative and modern dishes. They've also included some great updates to the more traditional steakhouse fare!

We were at STK celebrating the birthday of one of my best friends and we had an absolute blast!

We started the evening with cocktails and I has a delicious mojito (after just coming back from St. Maarten I'm on a tropical drink kick still!) The mojito was very good but per usual here in NYC, overpriced at $16! I later tried a ginger spiced martini and it was also just as delicious as it was expensive!

Freshly baked sourdough bread topped with herbed butter was brought to the table and was an amazing way to kick off the meal...it was served hot, right out of the oven and was very light and fluffy!

We then ordered a few salads. I tried one of their specials, the tomato, watermelon and goat cheese salad. I'm normally not a fruit in my salad kind of girl but a lot of NYC restaurants are featuring watermelon and goat cheese this summer and I was excited to finally try this dish! The watermelon and tomato were great together and both perfectly ripe and flavorful! The goat cheese added a nice savory touch to the dish! I am very happy I ordered it!

I also took a bite of the hearts of romaine salad...An updated ceasar, it was served with a garlic crouton and parmesan lemon dressing. It was very light and refreshing!

We also had the pear & endive salad which looked delicious with it's candied pecans, blue cheese and arugula!

For my main dish I ordered the small filet (6oz, medium rare) and it was cooked perfectly! It was a great steak and I was very impressed with the flavor!

Everyone at the table ordered steak and we were all pleased with the flavor and temperatures of the meat!

Small Skirt Steak

We also ordered a few sides for the table...mashed potatoes, parmesan truffle fries, and the mac and cheese. Each side was absolutely delicious!

We informed our waiter of the birthday girl and he surprised us with three of the most impressive and whimsical desserts! The first being grape cotton candy served with funnel cake and carmel popcorn...How fun is that!

He also delivered the cherry bomb which featured a chocolate covered piece of red velvet cake served with vanilla ice cream...So good!!!

The last fabulous dessert was a chocolate s'more brownie served warm and topped with peanut butter, toasted marshmallow and graham cracker crumble...it was devine!

I've read other reviews of STK complaining about the overly loud music and the inattentive waitstaff and I was pleasantly surprised that our experience was completely wonderful!!

  1. I must confess... I am having inappropriate dreams about that grape cotton candy! The filet I brought home was completely gorged by my 6 year old who DOES NOT eat steak. STK...the meat whisperers!
